"In 2011 I spent some time in Morocco working on an art project in a children’s centre near Fez. This painting is of a woman that managed the local public toilets in Fez. After watching her for some days and being mesmerized by her beauty, I tentatively asked her for some photographs, (something that we were discouraged from doing on cultural and religious grounds), however she gratefully agreed. I worked on a number of charcoal drawings of her but this painting was the ultimate result."
